Born in Budapest, chef owner David Kokai has always been inspired by the tastes of Europe. After a year long trip with his wife photographer Kathleen Finlay traveling and eating their way through Europe, David came back to fulfill his dream of bringing to Toronto his own version of a Paris 'traiteur'. Named after his four-year-old son, Loïc is a neighborhood place where people can find a great tasting meal without having to go very far as well as being a full service caterer. David draws inspiration from French cuisine while creating his own classics. At fourteen, David began his restaurant career in Toronto. In the eighteen years since, David has perfected his cooking skills at George Brown Culinary School and in great Toronto restaurants including Mercer Street Grill, Sauvignon Bistro and Sequel Restaurant. Opening Loïc Gourmet at Queen and Broadview was an exciting step for David in not only living in the neighbourhood of Riverside, but also operating a business there as well.
